Description

Along the beach, Sirka Sámis have their summer camp at Vaisaluokta Bay and Änonjálmme, where you can often buy fresh-caught char or whitefish. Or if you prefer catching the fish yourself, there are good spots a few kilometres from the cabin. If you arrive when the parish weekend is on, don’t miss the chance to participate in a Sámi service at the Vaisluokta parish tent. There is a gathering outdoors afterwards with coffee – we promise a memorable experience.

Payment by card is accepted at STF Vaisaluokta. Swish service only with Teliasubscription.

This is how it works in a mountain cabin
Our mountain cabins offer a simple and authentic stay in multi-bedded rooms with self catering. The rooms are different sizes with bunk beds and usually heated by gas stoves. On site you will be greeted by a cabin manager. As a guest you chop wood, fetch water from the stream or lake, wash up and clean up after youself.

Here we have gathered all the information you need for a stay in one of our mountain cabins https://www.swedishtouristassociation.com/stfmountaincabin

Directions

STF Vaisaluokta is located on the south side of Akkajaure, near the Vaisaluokta Sami village. The easiest way to get here is from Ritsem.

In winter there is no marked path that goes straight from Ritsem to Vaisaluokta. You can use the Ritsem – Akka trail and then follow the south bank of Akkajaure to Vaisaluokta. Be careful when traveling straight across the ice from Ritsem to Vaisaluokta. The lake serves as a water reservoir and is drained with great level variations.

In summer, the boat from Ritsem docks near the cabin.

STF Vaisaluokta can also be reached from STF Akka or STF Kutjaure. Neither of these trails is marked in winter.

For current information about boat traffic from Ritsem to Vaisaluokta, see https://swedishtouristassociation.com/boats

STF Vaisaluokta is another cabin on the Padjelantaleden and Nordkalottleden trails. Read more about Padjelantaleden https://www.swedishtouristassociation.com/padjelantatrail

For information about the Nordkalottleden, please use your preferred internet search engine.

It is easiest to get to Ritsem by bus from Gällivare, from where there are daily rail connections from Stockholm and other cities. It is a good idea to book train and bus travel in advance on the same Resplus ticket. If you want to book only the bus journey, you can do so at https://www.roadtoritsem.com/

Länstrafiken in Norrbotten no longer services the route between Gällivare and Ritsem.

If you are taking your own car to Ritsem, there are parking options at the harbor and at STF Ritsem. STF Ritsem also offers EV charging stations.
