Description

Gotska Sandön National Park is the loneliest island in the Baltic Sea and belongs to Gotland County. The national park has an area of 4,500 hectares, of which 3,638 hectares are land. Here you can enjoy beautiful sandy beaches, gray seals and rare beetles.

Because the island is made up of drifting sand, it is very hilly. The highest dune, Höga Åsen, is 43 meters above sea level.

Most of the island is covered by pine forest of varying age. The oldest trees are probably up to 500 years old. In dune depressions, known as moras, there are deciduous forests in several places. The beach zone is occupied by sand and gravel beaches and inside is the so-called castle dune.
