Ljungskär Västra Kruthuset

Building work at Ljungskär began in 1734 but took a couple of decades to complete. Ljungskär, like Mjölnareholmen, was intended to function as a powder magazine and a fortified tower. Their location just off Trossö was intended to prevent enemy attacks by boat from the mainland or across the ice. Ljungskär and Mjölnareholmen both have what was called a “peace roof” which could be removed in times of war and armed with heavy artillery.x000D

Ljungskär is part of the Naval Port of Karlskrona, inscribed on UNESCO’s list of unmissable World Heritage Sites in 1998.x000D
