Full Schedule:

9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.

  • Ask us about nature close to urban areas and get tips on outdoor recreation in Växjö Municipality. What’s your favorite spot in Växjö? The nature map shows the way to many green and blue gems. At 11:00 a.m., a guided hike of about 3 km begins with municipal ecologist Janne Kolehmainen through the nature reserve’s swamp forests and agricultural landscapes. Put on your most comfortable shoes and join us for an informative hike through protected nature.
  • The Kronoberg County Administrative Board inspires outdoor recreation. What kinds of fish are found in our lakes? What’s the best way to build an insect hotel for our pollinators? Get tips on places to visit in valuable natural and cultural areas. Every hour starting at 10:00 a.m., children and teens can try their hand at scooping up aquatic life along the shore of Trummen.
  • A little bit of everything with Nordic Wellness—we’re built for movement, and outdoor activities are especially healthy. Meet knowledgeable instructors in fitness and physical activity.
  • Växjö Running Club offers three running activities at a leisurely pace. Two different routes where we run or roll while picking up trash—plogging together is fun! Run “Backyard” in the castle park with the whole family! At 2:00 p.m., a trail running route begins with trail expert Johan Runbert. Put on your running shoes and enjoy a pleasant run together.

10:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.

  • Try out scouting with the Värend Scout Troop—paddle a loop on Lake Trummen or make your own stick bread over the fire. Experience scout life at the Skirviken picnic area.
  • The Swedish Tourist Association Värend offers a fun nature scavenger hunt for kids and adults and provides information about the association’s activities. Take a challenging walk together on the scavenger hunt.
  • Wexio Disc Golf demonstrates and offers tips on how to best play the disc golf course. Here, you can borrow a disc to try out this popular outdoor activity.

10:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m.

  • Become an outdoor buddy with Friluftsfrämjandet and the Växjö Red Cross. The organizations will showcase their programs with activities for children and adults during the Year of Outdoor Life.
  • Try out scouting with Växjö Scout Troop, which offers activities for children in 2nd grade and up. Welcome to our scout camp in the castle park.
  • Come try your hand at fishing with Sportfiskarna Kronoberg and SFK Forellen. We have fishing rods you can borrow, and we’ll offer helpful tips at Trummenbron. The whole family can give it a try—feel free to bring your own life jacket.

10:30 a.m.–2:30 p.m.

  • Try your hand at magnet fishing with Växjö Fritidsgårdar. It’s exciting to see what’s hidden at the bottom of the water using magnet fishing. There will also be fishing with a rod on the southern shore of Trummen.

11:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.

  • Join StoryMax Förlag for an adventure orienteering challenge: find the locations and complete the mission you’ll receive via the QR code. All you need to bring is a charged smartphone. Exciting adventures await just around the corner.

11:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.

  • The Funkibator Association invites all dog owners to a 3-km dog walk around Trummen. We’ll start at 11:00 a.m. at Trummen’s new dog park. First, there’ll be a brief overview of how the dog park came to be and became a reality. It’s one of very few dog parks that’s accessible to everyone. The dog walk will end with free playtime at the dog park for those who’d like to join in. We look forward to seeing you there!
  • On Nature Day, you can try taking a few laps on horseback with Theleborgs Ryttarsällskap at Stallvägen 10. A fun activity where you can test your balance on horseback while enjoying the great outdoors. 20 kronor via Swish for the pony ride.

Three open satellite stations at other locations during Nature Day

9:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. – At Växjö Kanot Club’s home base in Evedal, you can try paddling with experienced instructors. Here, you can try both kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding (SUP). You should know how to swim to ensure safe paddling. Welcome to our clubhouse at Evedal.

10:30 a.m.–1:00 p.m. – try real orienteering! At Växjö OK’s competition in the Notteryd Nature Reserve, you can freely choose from six different fitness classes:

  • Introductory 2 km, a very easy course suitable for children
  • Very easy 2 km
  • Easy 2.5 km and 5 km
  • Challenge 5 km and 10 km

1:00 PM–4:00 PM — Exhibition and demonstration of recreational assistive devices at Funkibator, in the courtyard of the Mästeriet building at Infanterigatan 10. Come check out the selection of recreational assistive devices. Here we have bicycles, wheelchairs, walkers, lifts, bathing aids, and more for recreational activities. Most of the equipment is available for free loan to promote public health, equal opportunities, and recreational activities on an equal footing.
