Jordbärsmuren - Ålbo, Naturreservat

The Jordbärsmuren nature reserve contains both extensive wetlands and deciduous forests alongside the Dalälven river. The name comes from Jordbärsmuren, a spectacular bog with a magnificent wilderness feel just a stone's throw from Gysinge and Färnebofjärden National Park. Here you can look out over the large marshland and experience the tranquillity, pick berries or discover Jordbärsmuren's rich bird life with black grouse, golden plover and curlew.

Strawberry is another word for cloudberry and, as the name suggests, there are plenty of cloudberries on the Strawberry Wall. They are usually ripe for picking from mid-July to August. Cranberries are another species that thrive on the Strawberry Wall and can be picked during September-October.

North of Jordbärsmuren, Ålboån and Finnbäcken rivers flow. The rivers are surrounded by wide river meadows that flood at high tide. These were used as hay meadows until the 1950s and until then there were many barns in the meadows where the hay was carried.

The reserve has a rich diversity linked to old deciduous trees, such as aspen and oak. A great diversity of lichens, insects and other organisms are linked to these trees, such as leatherjackets and aspen bark beetles. There are also areas of old coniferous forest where you can find, among other things, the endangered orchid knotweed.
