Syterstugan - Norra Sytertoppen - Viterskalsstugan

A demanding and exciting summit tour on Norra Storfjället and Västerbotten's highest peak 1768 meters above sea level.

Most people who climb Sytertoppen spend the night in Viterskalsstugan and start the tour there, which is recommended. It is possible to make a return ascent from Hemavan on the same day, but it is long and requires very good fitness.

From Viterskalsstugan, follow the King's Trail for about a kilometer towards Syterstugan where you cross Syterbäcken over the bridge. From here you follow the path that steeply leads up to the plateau south of Måskoestjåhke. Then follow the plateau ridge towards Norra Sytertoppen. Much of the hike takes place in boulder terrain and to some extent over snow fields. Once at the top, you have wonderful views in all directions in good weather, but at this height the clouds are often thick and mean that visibility is not always the best. A couple of hundred meters below the summit there is a small summit hut where you can rest and get shelter. It is a small cabin with two benches and a table. Stove is missing.

Map, compass and good orientation skills are required especially in poor visibility.

An alternative for those who are hiking along the King's Trail is to instead of hiking through Syterskalet between Viterskalsstugan and Syterstugan instead take the trail that goes via Norra Sytertoppen. If you choose this route, you should have both solid experience of hiking and good weather conditions.
