Beskrivelse

Can a gravel pit be a nature excursion destination? Yes, the Torslundagropen pit has a lot to offer those interested in nature. Start by climbing up to the top of the ridge at the edge of the pit. It's quite a demanding climb, but once up you can have a coffee at the table and admire the view over the area.

Torslundagropen is a small part of a long ridge that stretches from Bollnäs to Trosa. Gravel has been extracted here for many years, so a large part of the ridge has been excavated. But a small part of the original ridge remains, rising 25 meters above the surrounding agricultural landscape. The pit has become a nature reserve because there is a lack of open sand and gravel habitats in nature. There is an abundance of gravel here, which attracts the stonechat to nest among the stones. The ortolan bunting, which has become increasingly rare in recent years, also thrives here and can be heard singing in the spring. Many insects appreciate the warmth of the pit, and in summer there are many flowers to find nectar in. So look out for the exciting flora and fauna that thrive around Torslundagropen!

At the bottom of the gravel pit, a small pond has been created. It is a refuge for newts, frogs and other aquatic animals, which in the surrounding landscape lead a languishing existence, and is therefore kept fish-free.

Upplandsledens loop 23:1 passes through Torslundagropens nature reserve. It is a circular loop of 7.5 km and starts at Vånsjöåsen.

Services: parking, information signs, trail, coffee table by the view. Follow the Upplandsleden trail. Torlundaslingan is marked with a blue dot on orange color.

Manager and administrator: Upplandsstiftelsen manages the pit and the trail. Enavandrarna manages the trail.
