Klevberget, Naturreservat

From the top of Klevberget's mighty fault line, you have a magnificent view of Mount Borgarmon's broadleaf forests, Hallstad's flower-rich meadows and the vast waters of Järnlunden.

Below and above the slope are valuable deciduous and coniferous forests with old trees and a rich biodiversity. Many red-listed lichens, fungi and insects live here. Hollow deciduous trees are important nesting sites for birds.

A number of red-listed species grow in the reserve, i.e. species that are rare and at risk of disappearing from the Swedish forest. The shade of the slope and the foliage keep the humidity high, which together with the rich supply of dead wood favors many species that thrive in this special environment.

Candelabra fungus and white wood fungus both grow on decaying aspen trunks. The lower parts of the slope are green with mosses, especially where water seeps along the rock face. On damp rock faces grows the rarest species, the scar lichen, which is only known from four locations in Sweden.

For you as a visitor

At the parking lot there is a shelter, barbecue area and toilet. From here you can walk the orange-marked Östgötaleden trail to Klevberget. The trail takes you up the mountain, which is about 50 meters above Lake Järnlunden. Up on the hill, the trail goes quite close to several steep cliffs. The view is fantastic but be careful! The trail goes through the entire reserve and if you want, you can continue east in an approximately 3 kilometer long circular loop that also takes you through Borgarmon's nature reserve and back to Hallstad meadows. At Borgarmon there is also a nice viewpoint. If you want to go on a long hike, you can instead continue the Östgötaleden trail west for about 1 mile to the exciting caves at Trollegater.

Why not also take the opportunity to visit the Hallstad meadows and Borgarmon nature reserves? Perhaps take a dip in Järnlunden at the bathing area in Hallstad ängar?
