Östra Björkön - Katrinelund

Time required: 2 hours one way. Difficulty: 2. Medium, involves paddling on open water. Paddling along the shore is recommended. If you follow the shoreline south from Björköns eastern harbor, after a couple of kilometers you will pass Engelbrektsholmen, where Engelbrekt Engelbrektsson, a rebel in the 15th century, was beaten to death by Måns Bengtsson when he was on his way to a council meeting in Stockholm. There is a memorial on the site and it is a popular excursion destination with beautiful scenery. There are picnic tables and a fireplace here, and it's a very pleasant place to have a coffee. Continue paddling south to Katrinelund, when you pass Öknäsudden your path is lined with small islands. The nature is characterized by rocky beaches and deciduous forest and there are good chances to see birds of prey such as osprey and sea eagles. Katrinelund has parking, a swimming area and restaurant, as well as kayak rental.
