Falun Mine is placed in the central parts of Falun, just a 10-minute walk from the city centre. On the way there, you can walk through Elsborg, which is a part of the Falun World Heritage site. Guided tours below ground Throughout the year Falun Mine offers guided underground tours. The guided tour goes through parts of the mine dating back to the 17th century with winding passages and large halls. The mine tour takes about an hour and is offered in both Swedish and English. The easiest way to buy tickets is via Falun Mines website, where you will also find practical information for your visit underground. There is also a restaurant and café in the area, which are also open all year round.

Interactive museum During large parts of the year, it is also open in the Mine Museum, which tells the story of the mine from the Viking Age until 2001, when the site was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The museum is interactive, so visitors can both see and touch. Why not test you knowledge of copper or go by a barrel into the mine’s deep shaft? Above ground there is also much else to do all year round: visit the open historical buildings and take a walk around the Great Pit and scan QR-codes to learn more about what you see. Also, don’t forget to make a stop in the Visitor’s Center where you will find the Mine Shop, exhibitions and film screenings.

Summer at Falun Mine During the summer months, the entire mine area comes alive! There is plenty to discover regardless of whether it is rain or sunshine. Did you know, for example, that it is always plus sex degrees Celsius down in the mine? Perfect if you need a break from the summer heat. If the rain pours down the museum is open and you can also take a trip back in time and visit the miners cottages Koppargränd 1897 and Krongården 1958. There are also rabbits, chickens and sheep.
