The current church is the third known church on the same site. It was built between 1840 and 1844, based on designs by Axel Nyström, and constructed in the so-called Tegnér style or neoclassical style. The local people carried out the construction work under the direction of master builder P. Pettersson from Sandhult in Västergötland. On August 2, 1846, the consecration was performed by Bishop Christopher Isac Heurlin. The new church replaced a medieval church that had been expanded during the 1770s and was located further to the southeast. The church consists of a rectangular nave with a semicircular chancel to the south and a sacristy at the eastern long wall, as well as a tower structure to the north. The tower is equipped with a four-sided lantern with a clock. The roof of the lantern is crowned by a cross. The interior is characterized by a typical hall church style with a barrel vault and is marked by light and space. The prominent and very beautiful artwork in the chancel ceiling is a painting from 1951 by Waldemar Lorentzon, a member of the Halmstad group. It depicts the entire salvation history from creation to the end of time. In 1964, a runestone, the Ryssby stone, was taken out of the church wall and erected in the churchyard.
