Next to the church's southern cemetery wall, there are two
runestones from the Younger Age (500-1050 AD). Both stones have been moved from
its original location and was found walled up in the church. The one stone has
lay in the doorway of the old church. When the new church was built got
the rune stone acts as steps on the outside of the cemetery wall. The stone is partial
destroyed but the cross in the center is preserved and testifies that it was erected on
11th century when people then abandoned the pagan religion and became Christians. Of
the runes can be read as follows: "This stone after Önd......death" The
the other stone has been sitting in the door. Therefore, it is not surprising that even
this stone is broken and that the entire rune line cannot be deciphered. Yet it says
enough to tickle our curiosity. Parts of the rune line read: “Thord
traveled this care...died in England". The runes tell us that someone from
the area participated in one of the Viking raids to England.
