Ljungby Church was built in 1858–1859 in a typical style of the time. The church was consecrated on September 8, 1861, by Bishop Henrik Gustaf Hultman of Växjö. The new church was centrally located where the old Lagastigen met the road coming from the east, now Storgatan. The newly built church was poor in artistic decorations and furnishings. The furnishings that were brought from the old church were mostly just the medieval baptismal font and the grandfather clock from the 18th century.

Storgatan in Ljungby, towards the church Drawings for the new church in a historicist mixed style were probably produced by Albert Törnquist at the Office of the Superintendent. According to the taste of the time, the church room was to be open and bright. The church building was constructed of stone, plastered, and painted in an ochre yellow color with white plaster in the details. It consists of a rectangular nave with a rounded chancel in the west and a tower building in the east. The tower is finished with a lantern and a spire crowned by a cross.

The most recent renovation took place in 1997–1998, the sacristy was rebuilt and extended, the chancel was enlarged, and the altar was exposed. The triumphal cross and the wooden sculpture of Mary with the baby Jesus were returned to the church. During this renovation, Ljungby native Sven Ljungberg painted balsamines in the sacristy’s reception room.
