Cykelrundtur längs Banvallsleden och Sverigeleden

Discover Småland along scenic cycling routes!

Take a delightful bike ride through the Småland countryside along signposted routes. The Banvallsleden runs from coast to coast, from Kattegatt to the Baltic Sea, between Halmstad and Karlshamn. The route intersects with the Sverigeleden at several points, which runs from Karesuando to Helsingborg, allowing you to start and finish at the same place while still having a signposted route for support. Here you cycle along disused railway tracks, past pastures, open landscapes, villages, and into the deepest of Småland’s forests.

There are accommodations, cafés, restaurants, and grocery stores along the way that can make for cozy stops.

From Ljungby to Lagan, follow the bike path through Kronoskogen, signposted as a branch of the Banvallsleden with red signs, and cycle along the Lagaån past beautiful farmland.

Starting Point: Ljungby

Begin your journey in Ljungby, the heart of Sagobygden. Here you can visit the Sagomuseum and get an insight into the rich storytelling tradition before you set off. During your bike ride, you will encounter several legend sites with exciting tales.

Follow the Banvallsleden through Kronoskogen, signposted with red signs. Cycle along the Lagaån and enjoy the beautiful farmland. During your bike ride, you have the opportunity to visit some of the many farm shops and Lingonställen along the route, which are perfect stops during your ride. When you reach Lagan, switch to the Sverigeleden (green signs) and cycle towards Hörda and Ryssby.

In Hörda, one of Sweden’s longest villages, you can visit one of the legend sites of Sagobygden and learn about the village’s history after the Black Death. The road is less trafficked and offers a fantastic Småland landscape with red houses, stone walls, and spruce forests. Continue towards Ryssby and switch back to the Banvallsleden, red signs, at Ryssbygymnasiet. From here, you cycle through dense forests and past beautiful lakes. Keep an eye out for moose cooling off in the water!

Now you enter Alvesta municipality for a few kilometers, and attractions, cafés, and similar are missing on the map. However, feel free to visit the Piggaborga mill and the café Soldattorpet, which are close to the route, and take a break at the ICA store in Vislanda or visit some of the other attractions you pass along the way. Just before Vislanda, the Banvallsleden merges with the Sverigeleden, and you should now continue to follow the Sverigeleden (green signs) towards Agunnaryd and Ljungby. Turn towards Ryssbyholm and later towards Sunnerå to Ryssby. Take a short detour to Agunnaryd to visit shops, cafés, and a bathing place.

Back in Ryssby, turn off at Ryssbygymnasiet and follow the Banvallsleden (red signs) through Lindmarkerparken with adventure golf and artworks that remind of the former railway. Visit S:ta Birtes spring and cool off at the bathing place.

Continue cycling towards Ljungby through the Småland forest and open fields. Deep and dense forests surround you and create a magical atmosphere. Final destination: Ljungby. Enjoy having completed a fantastic bike ride!

• Don’t forget to bring water and sunscreen.
• Keep an eye out for the red and green cycling signs along the way to stay on track.
