Luonnonsuojelualue
Almö is a popular destination. People come here to swim, have picnics or walk the trails. In the northern part of the nature reserve there is attractive pasture land with oak trees and leafy deciduous woods. To the south, an open landscape takes over, with heaths, rocky outcrops and coastal meadows.
The nature reserve preserves the open landscape that people here have been using for summer grazing for centuries.
If you are lucky, in the summer, you can hear the sound of Blekinge’s provincial animal, the stag beetle. The largest insect in Europe, it can grow to a gigantic eight centimetres long. Your highest chance of spotting it is for a few weeks from early June.
Almö is rich in bird life. Besides the rare barred warbler, you can also spot the common rosefinch, the red-backed shrike and the common whitethroat.
The rules for the nature reserve are shown in the link below but, for example, you are not permitted to pitch a tent for more than 48 hours, or light fires where there is no site designated for campfires, and dogs must be kept on a lead (other than when hunting).
