Look out over the landscape around the valley! Surely you can see that the land has been farmed for centuries?

Today's mansion was designed by Jean Eric Rehn. The commission came from the director Herman Petersen, who had bought the property in 1763.

The manor landscape is intended to show the importance of the estate. Straight roads with avenues radiate towards the estate. Lichens and mosses thrive on the avenue trees. Cavities in the old trunks provide nesting and feeding sites for birds. The many fallow deer find shade, shelter and food on field hills and forest edges.

The good soil in Erstaviksdalen was already cultivated in the Iron Age, 1000-1500 years ago. During the manor era, the land around the farm was used for growing grain and for grazing animals. Today, what is grown is used to feed the horses in the area.
