Naturschutzgebiet
By traveling from island to island in Motala Bay, you travel hundreds of millions of years in the history of the earth. "Erkerna" is the oldest archipelago, 1,700 million years, and "Sandön" is the youngest, "only" 10,000 years. On Sandön, there is also one of the largest linden stands in Östergötland. The islands of Motala Bay consist of a number of archipelagos with varying nature and geology. On the islands "Skallen" (included in Fjuk) and "Sandön" there is a privy, trash can and firesite. Within a certain area on the northeastern part of Sandön, camping is allowed for two nights. Fjuk's beaches are steep and rocky and can only be entered in calm weather. Sandön's shallow beaches make the island difficult to approach by deep-sea boat. For the islands' sensitive bird life, avoid going ashore on the islands of Fjuk, Jungfrun and Erkerna during the breeding season April-June.
