Askersund’s open air museum – Hembygdsgården
History plays an important role in Askersund. This why the locals already in 1933 started a place where they gathered old houses from the region. Besides the houses that survived the city fire in 1776, you can also visit cabines that once upon the time where built in the Tiveden area.
The spot is in walking distance from the city centre. Under high season you can also choose to take a ride with the little train that is driving between the harbour and the museum.
During summer time, animals are living in the pens between the houses. Say hi and pet some goats, ducks and rabbits. You can also have a picnic on the grass and enjoy the view over the lake.

Nearby the open air museum you will find a nature reserve, called « Stadsparken ». Several jogging trails lead you through the reserve. The landscape reminds the one in Tiveden, with big stone blocs and mossy woods. For our younger visitors we have prepared a geocaching challenge, with 5 hidden treasures.
