A walk through Våraskruv’s nature reserve is almost like time traveling. Around what used to be a solitary farm lays many of the original fields and meadows. Våraskuv’s farm used to be one of the tenancy farms of Sävsjö manor (Sävsjö säteri) which dates to the Middle Ages.

In the meadows you’ll find massive oaks with an abundance of different lichen, insects, and birds. The meadows are also rich in flowers during the early parts of the summer.

Don’t forget to have a look around the old farm and see the traditional “loftbod”, which is a small storage building that’s typical for this region.

There are several marked paths you can take through the reserve.

There is a parking space next to the nature reserve. At the parking space is there also an information sign and a toilet.

Take the road from Lenhovda to Älghult. Close to Sävsjöström is a road that goes north with a white sign that says “Våraskruv Naturreservat”. Follow that road for about 4 km.

If you’re coming from Åseda, take the road that goes to Älghult. After you’ve passed Marshult turn right at the white sign that says “Naturreservat”. Follow that road for about 3 km.

You are welcome to visit the nature reserve, but please note that it is not allowed to:

damage solid natural objects or surface formations, for example by digging, drilling, painting or chiseling on rocks and boulders,
break branches, fell or otherwise damage living or dead trees and shrubs
picking, damaging or digging up rice, herbs, mushrooms, mosses and lichens other than picking individual specimens. Berries and edible mushrooms may be picked for domestic use,
drive or park a motorized vehicle or trailer other than on a designated road and parking space,
camping or staying overnight in a motorhome or caravan
catch or collect insects, snails, worms or other invertebrates
disturbing or harming wildlife, for example by approaching a nesting site or similar
setting fire
put up a board, sign, poster or similar (Note: Temporary signage for a few days for a tip walk or similar is permitted after consultation with the manager),
conduct competitions, exercises, camps or similar activities in the reserve without the manager's permission

Measures for scientific research, which have been approved in advance by the County Administrative Board, are excluded from these regulations.
