Flaten

Flaten is a popular angling lake, not least for foreign angling tourists. It is located about 15 km southwest of Hultsfred next to the road between Målilla and Virserum. Flaten is one of the lakes included in the Flaten fisheries management area. The lake is nutrient-poor and the surroundings are dominated in the northern part by deciduous forest and in the southern part by coniferous forest. The ground is often rocky and stony. In the northern part of the lake is a domain reserve, Bocksudd, which contains oak forest. The aquatic vegetation is sparse except in some shallow areas in the western and northern part where sedges and reeds grow. In the middle of the lake is a small island called Flateö. In the southwestern part of the lake there is a bathing area. Osprey, Eurasian bittern and lesser spotted woodpecker nest by the lake.
