Gråbodarna

Fäbodledsområde 12 passes Gråbodarna. In 1556, Gråbodarnas fäbodar is mentioned in the tax roll. The pasture was then owned by a large farmer. But it is mentioned in a deed of gift as early as 1444. There is also old and uncertain information that the village of Gråda was formed by emigration from Grådbodarna.

What is clear, however, is that Grådbodarna, which had very large crops, was a permanent settlement for many years.

In the 1811-1817 census, Grådbodarna had 18 co-owners, eight of whom were from Gråda, three from Tjärna, three from Gröntuv, two from Gärde, and one each from Högberget and Rista. Even in the summer of 1933, eleven farmers had cows at the pastures.

Pasture farming ceased in 1949 or 1950. At that time there were about 20 animals here, owned by four co-owners from the villages of Gråda, Gröntuv, Tjärna and Västtjärna. The last litters were Karin Nordqvist, born in 1924, and Maria Bing.

According to a legend, the name of the farmstead comes from Grå Bonde, who is said to have lived at the end of the 14th century and to have been so rich that he owned the whole of Gagnef, Ål and Leksand. His treasury is said to have been in a cave in Gråbodberget, where there are still many silver-filled barrels. It is said that Grå Bonde died after a giant of a man threw him off his horse, and that neither earth nor grass covers his grave in Grådbodarna.

The sheepfold has been classified as culturally and environmentally valuable in a cultural-historical environmental analysis.
