We’d like to celebrate Biodiversity Day by inviting you to join the Swedish Tourist Association’s flower walk to Calmare Hage near Södra Fysingen!

Calmare Hage is an old meadow and pasture that was becoming overgrown before the Väsby Nature Conservation Association began restoring and maintaining it in 1992. Now, a quarter-century later, many of the area’s characteristic plants have returned. There are many pasqueflowers growing here—though they may have already finished blooming by the time we arrive—but there are also many other flowers in the pasture and the surrounding oak forest. Flower expert Niklas Johansson from the Väsby Nature Conservation Association guides us through the flowers and foliage at Södra Fysingen.

Since 2016, the municipality of Upplands Väsby has had a cooperation agreement with the Löwenström Foundation, under which the municipality is now responsible for managing the nature area’s deciduous groves, pastures, and hay meadows, including Calmare Hage. To preserve and enhance biodiversity and recreational value in the southwestern part of Fysingen, the municipality has thinned and cleared the way for many trees worthy of protection—including oaks—and has begun restoring several pastures and allowing cows to graze on some of the land. We have also renovated and built new walking trails and hope to install informational signs shortly.

How to get here: Take bus 568 from Upplands Väsby station to Gamla lasarettsvägen, then walk from there to the meeting point shown on the map. Please note that parking at the meeting point is very limited.
