Trail description
Böda backar is an exercise trail that runs through the stately pine forest and old coniferous forest that make up the first generation of forest planted in the 19th century. Sand drift was a major problem in northern Öland. The sand spread with the wind and covered fields, roads and villages. To solve the problem, pine forests were planted and today the trees keep the sand in place. They also create beautiful clearings and exciting forest environments near the shoreline.
The trails and exercise paths are divided into different lengths. The red one is two and a half kilometres, the green one is just over three kilometres and the blue one is about six kilometres. All three are easy to get around on. If you want a bit more of a challenge and discover that Öland isn't actually all flat, the blue and green trails are recommended. The surface varies and consists of sand, paths and small bridges over watercourses.

Plant and bird life
There is a wide variety of tree species and the forest is patchy with light glades. Plants found in this part of the forest include cottongrass, heather and toothwort. The whole area has high nature values and has a valuable lichen and fungus flora with species such as threadbrush, ringworm and licorice mushroom. Birds found in the area include the common scoter, nightjar and herring gull.

In the nature reserve you may not:
- Drive a motorised vehicle off designated roads or paths.
- Camp for more than one day in the same place.
- Set up a motorhome, caravan or similar.
- Ride a horse outside designated roads or paths.
- Bringing a dog, or other animal, that is not on a leash.
- Put up a board, sign, poster or similar device or make inscriptions.
- Build a fire.
- Damage or remove trees, stumps, bark, branches, shrubs or brush that are growing or dead.
