Fäbodledsområde 5, Mockfjärd södra

Gagnef municipality has a unique trail system of 480 km that once linked the many pastures and villages. The trails cover the entire municipality and centuries-old cultural trails that pass charcoal kilns, huts and magnificent nature experiences.

Friluftsfrämjandet works hard to keep the trails going and has a great deal of knowledge about them. Today, the trails offer a huge opportunity for outdoor recreation. The huge trail system is divided into 13 different areas for care and maintenance. We call them Fäbodledsområde 1 to 13.

The trails pass almost all the mountain huts in Gagnef municipality, which is just over 40. Along the trails you will also pass rest huts, huts and charcoal huts. If you have a sleeping bag with you, there is simple overnight accommodation. In 13 facilities you can sleep more than one person and in 12 charcoal huts there is a bed.

All rest cabins are unlocked except Prästbuo in Björbo, where you can borrow a key from Källbäckens by.

**Area 05 Mockfjärd södra consists of the sections 5:1 to 5:11.

For section 5:1 there is a windbreak at Myrflaten.

Section 5:2 has a windbreak at Backbodarna.

Section 5:4 Slogbod and warming hut Prästbodarna.

Subsection 5:7 has a Slogbod at northern Tryssjön and a charcoal hut at the center of Tryssjön.

**Description of the area Mockfjärd södra.

The area is crossed by the Europaled 1 hiking trail from Prästbodarna in the south, which borders Gyllbergen in Borlänge, to Mockfjärd in the north. In addition to the Europaled trail, which passes through 4 mountain huts, there are mountain hut trails to Säls mountain huts and Tryssjöbodarna in the east and mountain hut trails to Södra Tansbodarna and Stockgropen in the south. Europaleden 1 passes through the Flomyren nature reserve between Prästbodarna and Backbodarna.

Tour proposal 1

Visit Klövers skär. Length about 8 km

Starting point IFK Mockfjärds clubhouse at the lighted trail.

This easy hike starts by following Europaled 1 towards Västtjärnslindan. After just over 3 km before Lake Myrflaten, you turn east on a forest road. You can also choose to walk up to Myrflaten about 100 meters where there is a shelter where you can rest. Follow the forest road for about 1.5 km until you come to the mountain pasture trail from Brötjärna to the mountain pastures Grönvall and Backbodarna. At the crossroads, follow the trail north to Mockfjärd. Places to stop are Smalsjöbron between the lakes Smalsjön and Löfsen and the mighty stone formations at Klövers skär.

Tour suggestion 2

Visit Västtjärnslindorna. Length about 13 km

Starting point IFK Mockfjärds clubhouse at the lighted trail.

This relatively easy hike starts by following Europaled 1 towards Västtjärnslindan. At Myrflaten you pass a shelter where it may be appropriate to take a rest break. Then continue towards Västtjärnslindan where you can take the opportunity to take a much-needed break, possibly together with the free-range cows of the pasture. In the middle of the pasture at the maypole there is a well where you can refill your water bottles. Then continue the trail towards Grönvall where you just before the shed take the trail north towards Brötjärna and Mockfjärd. Nice spots on the way back to Mockfjärd are Smalsjöbroar and Klövers skär.

Tour suggestion 3_

Hike to 3 mountain farms. Length about 11 km

Starting point southern Tansbodarna.

The tour starts at southern Tansbodarna which is located at 290 meters above sea level northwest up to Prästbodarna which is about 460 meters above sea level. You walk uphill for about 4 km. Prästbodarna borders the Gyllbergen nature reserve. At Prästbodarna, there is a hut where you can rest and rest. You can also spend the night in a warming hut. The tour then continues down south into Ludvika municipality towards Stockgropen. Stockgropen is a sheepfold that was owned by farmers from Gagnef and Mockfjärd. This is also a good place to take a break. Then continue the tour westwards back to southern Tansbodarna. If it's a warm day, you can finish with a swim at the bathing area in Tansen, where there is also a mud hut.

Tour suggestion 4

Visit Tryssjön. Length about 15 km

Starting point Backbodarna.

The tour starts at Backbodarna at about 315 meters above sea level east past Torkarmyren 435 meters above sea level down to Tryssjön about 350 meters above sea level. It is 5 km to Tryssjön. Here it is good to take a break at the slogboden on the northern shore of Tryssjön or at the kolarkojan about 1 km south after Tryssjön. The tour then continues south for 4.5 km up towards Prästbodarna at about 450 meters sea level. Here you will find both a hut and a warming hut. Then follow Europaled 1 back to Backbodarna. Here you go through the nature reserve Flomyren. Take the opportunity to enjoy what the nature reserve has to offer.
