Omschrijving

Tjurkö Boat Graveyard

Tjurkö Boat Graveyard is one of Karlskrona’s most unique and curious places – a hidden cultural site tucked away in roadless land. Here lie abandoned archipelago ferries, fishing boats, and even a tracked tractor, all left behind since the 1940s and 1950s when Tjurkö could only be reached by boat. Some hulls are partially submerged in water, while others have been pulled ashore and are slowly being reclaimed by trees and bushes.

Once considered a nuisance, the site was granted cultural reserve status in 2016. Despite not being an official tourist destination, it attracts curious visitors and ruin tourists every year. Entry is free, but climbing on the wrecks is strongly discouraged.

Parking is available at Stenbräcka Camping. Follow the trail north to reach the boat graveyard.

Underwater Wrecks

Just off the coast of Tjurkö lies a historic underwater wreck site, where around 20 ships were deliberately sunk in the late 1600s as a naval barrier protecting Karlskrona. The vessels are believed to have been in use between 1550 and 1650. Most are now collapsed, but can still be seen by divers.
