Beskrivelse

Explore the beautiful nature of Halleberg and Hunneberg plateau mountains

The Ecopark

At the southwestern tip of Lake Vänern lies the popular plateau mountains of Halleberg and Hunneberg. Along its rocky edges grow oak trees and in the deep gorges wild garlic grows. The mountains have been inhabited for millennia’s and many traces still remain. Halle-Hunneberg make up the only ecopark in western Sweden, which means that the area is preserved because of the unique and biologically valuable forest environments here. Here you can read more about the ecopark and see an overview map of the mountains.

Hunneberg

Bergagården

On Hunneberg there is an area called Bergagården which is a great starting point for exploring the mountains. Here you will find the museum The Royal Hunt Museum Elk Hill, you need only follow the signs from the nearby town of Vargön to find the museum and Bergagården.

Here you will find hiking and mountain bike trails. At the Royal Hunt Museum Elk Hill you can rent mountain bikes and canoes, buy fishing permits and souvenirs, book guided tours, join a beaver safari during summer or ask the staff for good place to visit during your stay on the mountains. Here you also find fireplaces and nice areas for some rest in the nature. Buy some food or classic swedish fika in Vänersborg city to make your perfect picnic in the forest.

Halleberg

Halleberg is the mountain which overlooks Lake Vänern. Some say that the early people in the region believed that Halleberg was the mytic place of Valhalla, the home of the nordic gods and there are several of Scandinavia's largest archaeological sites here. Hallsjön is the only lake on the mountain and is a popular place for relaxing walks.
