Hindens rev

This ultra-narrow peninsula is a fun walking trail with an exciting past. The long, narrow spit known as Hindens Rev stretches five kilometers into Lake Vänern like a spearhead. The width varies between 25 and 100 meters. As you approach the tip, the elevation drops until the reef disappears beneath the water, only to resurface 12 km away on the Dalsland side, where it's called Hjortens Udde.

Hindens Rev is a well-loved excursion and tourist destination, with hiking as its main activity. Walking along the ridge offers a peaceful experience. The trail winds through forest, roots, and stones, and ends dramatically among cliffs and water at a place called Hindekraket. In summer, fishing and birdwatching are popular, and in winter, the area attracts long-distance ice skaters.

Things to Keep in Mind

The trail to the ridge can be challenging in some places, especially depending on the season and weather, as water levels fluctuate. Wear sturdy shoes and be cautious of adders and ticks, which thrive in the area.

The Nature Reserve

Hindens Rev is part of the Hindens Udde–Svalnäs Nature Reserve and has been protected since 1986. Pine, rowan, birch, aspen, and several protected plant species grow here.When the water rises, five elongated islands appear, known as “Killingarna.” Hindens Rev is of national interest for nature conservation and outdoor life and is therefore uninhabited.
