Green Mine

A little way into the forest from road 154 in the western Swedish forests in Svenljunga municipality is Gräne Gruva, a feldspar mine from the 19th century.

Between the lakes Holsjön and Lilla Hallången in the western part of the municipality is Gräne Gruva. Here, feldspar was mined from the end of the 19th century, which was used in the porcelain industry and mainly exported to Germany on a small railway that connected to the smaller railway line Falkenberg Railway between Falkenberg and Limmared. The quarry is about 20x15 meters in size with 20 meter high walls that you reach via a short walk from the parking lot. Operations ceased in 1930, but today you can still see the open pit mine, which is located about a hundred meters into the forest from road 154 between Holsjunga and Överlida. Today the mine is a place for outdoor activities and recreation for the whole family.

Hike, look for trolls or look out from the lookout

At the mine you will find several shorter and slightly longer hiking trails. The trails are well laid out and signposted. There are four trails, Trollstigen which is 800 meters, a shorter trail - Toppleden, 1.8 km and two slightly longer, Järnvägsleden - at 3.6 km and Geologileden - 4.2 km. Around the area there are several benches to rest your legs and at the troll square you will find barbecue areas. There is also a large windbreak to protect against sun and rain.
