Bräcke ängar och lövskogar, Naturreservat

When the greenery starts to appear, Bräcke ängar is a popular destination. For many, a coffee break at one of the benches in the beautiful rolling farmland is a tradition.

The greenery in the meadows changes gradually during spring and early summer. Initially, bluebells grow here, followed by wood anemones, then cowslips, various orchids and much more.

About 300 m east of the reserve parking lot there is a gravel path. It leads to an accessible table with a view of part of the meadow and Bräcketjärnet. The paths in the area are marked and the dry toilet at the parking lot is accessible.

Bräcke meadows are said to be Dalsland's best restored deciduous meadow. The trees were felled and the area had been managed with mowing until the 1930s. After about 40 years, the area became a nature reserve. By then the meadow had become overgrown and major restoration measures had to be taken with clearing work. Meadow management is now underway again; the meadow is mowed as before and the trees are hammered. In addition, the surrounding deciduous forests have been part of the reserve since 2008. Work is being done there to benefit the white-backed woodpecker and other species that thrive in deciduous forests.
