Beskrivelse
You can connect to the trail either at "Torpet" or Nattsjön parking lot in Marsfjället nature reserve. It is also possible to connect from Dainanäs in Dainan Nature Reserve.
If you start at Torpet, the trail splits after 200 meters and you follow it going south towards Svartsjön. After 50 meters you pass a bridge. The walk goes through mixed forest with old gnarled pines, here you can see species such as torta, linnea and goldenrod. On the way you pass the Matskansån rapids.
After 2.5 km you come to Svartsjön. The trail follows the eastern side of the lake. West of Svartsjön is an area with 500-year-old pine trees. The lakes in the area are clear water lakes with both trout and char, so it might be worth trying your luck at fishing. Buy a fishing license at NatureIT.
Once you have passed Svartsjön, you will enter an area (east of the trail) called Styggrubba, an inaccessible and rocky area. Here there is a good chance of encountering Lichen Jays, Crossbills, Lapwing and Three-toed Woodpeckers. If you're really lucky, you might see a bear.
At Nattsjön the trail passes over a watercourse. There is no bridge, but it is possible to walk on stones. Note that it can be challenging to cross for children or if you have poor balance, especially in high water or if the stones are slippery.
After a 5 km hike, you will arrive at Nattsjöstugan, beautifully situated by the lake. There is a possibility to stay overnight here.
From here to Dainanäs it is 12 km through deep spruce forest and open marshes. The terrain is demanding. During the hike, a coffee stop up at the rest area on Måsberget (670 meters above sea level) is a good idea. The place provides a fantastic view of the forest landscape and all the way to snow-capped Marsfjäll peaks.
Soon you leave the Marsfjället Nature Reserve and eventually enter the Dainan Nature Reserve. Here on Lill-Tallberget you will find Dainanäs, which is a state building monument managed by the National Property Board.
The mountain apartment Dainanäs dates from the end of the 19th century and was built by the settler Markus Lundin. There are log cabins with outbuildings beautifully surrounded by old hay meadows. You can spend the night in one of the houses and experience what it was like to live in roadless country. From here it is 6 km to the road on the other side of the lake.
