Paubäcken

Paubäcken and the surrounding area is a great destination for excursions with huts, barbecue areas and paths. People come here for the stream and the fishing, but also to see the traces of the rafting era, to pick berries and mushrooms or just to experience nature.

At the reserve's information point near Pauträsk there is a logging hut and a logging dam with a bridge over the stream.

Paubäcken is home to half a million pearl mussels. The river pearl mussel is the animal in Sweden that can live to be 250 years old. The river pearl mussel is highly endangered and has high demands on its environment, including its dependence on trout as a host animal during its larval stage. Therefore, the abundance of mussels shows that Paubäcken is a relatively clean watercourse where the ecological interactions between species work.
