Lake Vänern is Sweden's largest lake but also the EU's largest and Europe's third largest lake. The lake is large and if you are going out by boat you need to have good boating experience as Vänern can be a bit tricky.
There are around 38 types of fish in Vänern and both cold and warm water species thrive here. The size of Lake Vänern means that some species usually associated with the sea also thrive here.

Lake Vänern covers 5650 km2 and has a volume of 153 km3, which is almost twice the size of Lake Vättern. There are 22 000 islands and islets in the lake.
