Tibergs udde, Naturreservat

The Tibergs udde nature reserve, located within the Långban mining area in the Värmland Bergslagen, is an older agricultural landscape with an unusually rich flora for the county.

The softly shaped and slightly undulating flower meadows are characteristic of the area. Between the meadows are rocky and boulder-rich hills with sparse tree and shrub vegetation. In the eastern part of the reserve there are a couple of old fish ponds framed by lush deciduous forest. In the far north, a headland juts out into Lake Hyttsjön, which was created during the production period 1910-1925 when skarn (stone residues after mining) was driven into the lake.

The reserve was established to preserve the rare and orchid-like flora and the fact that Långban is of international interest in terms of the presence of minerals. The area is part of the EU's Natura 2000 network of valuable nature sites.

Plants

As many as seven different orchid species are found in the reserve; soapwort, guckusko, bride's spurge, purple bundle root, green clover, maidenhair fern and night violet. In addition to orchids, there are maidenhair fern, meadow bell, cowslip, under-violet and field gentian with several species unusual for the county. The shrub layer includes woodruff, tibast and olivine.
