Stenbäcken, Naturreservat

The stream is home to the EU's richest occurrence of the common brook moss.

The nature reserve Stenbäcken was established to preserve a natural forest stream with a unique cryptogamic flora (e.g. lichens, mosses and fungi). Characteristic plant and animal communities in the vicinity of the stream are to be protected. The reserve will also preserve biodiversity in an area with valuable nutritious spruce forest with deciduous elements and provide good conditions for its typical species. The bedrock within the reserve is dominated by granite with a diabase sequence.

The stream is home to the EU's richest occurrence of the common brook moss. The species is red-listed in the vulnerable category. In other parts of the area, several red-listed species have been found, mainly among lichens and fungi, but a species-rich vascular plant flora also grows here.

Part of the nature reserve lies within the Natura 2000 area Mögrevsbäcken, which is part of the EU's ecological network of protected areas, Natura 2000.
