Intressepunkt Torgeirs källa

Torgeir's well is one of the four special pilgrim places in Arvika municipality, along the Pilgrim Trail of Western Värmland.

This place might have been the starting point for the introduction of Christianity in Värmland. According to western Värmland traditions, a Norwegian named Torgeir is supposed to have been the first to preach the Christian faith in our area. He is said to have baptisted heathens from Värmland at a well in Ränkesed, Sulvik during the 12th century.

The Christening Well of Torgeir is situated at one of the old Pilgrim Trails toward Nidaros, Trondheim in our days. In the Sulvik area, the trails crossed and continued in different directions, which might have made this well central to Torgeir’s mission.
