Beskrivelse
A reserve with rich flora.
The area around the small forest star Gillertjärn has long been known for its rich presence of yew. Its location at the northern edge of the yew's range in Sweden makes the area interesting in principle.
The reserve was established to protect a large stand of yew and also the area's otherwise distinctive and unique vegetation. The area is part of the EU's ecological network of protected areas, Natura 2000.
Plants
In addition to yew, the area is home to a number of unusual flowering plants, such as witch hazel, wood vetch, lesser celandine, sweet woodruff, dwarf horsetail, wood sorrel and common ragwort, as well as a particularly rich and worthy of protection flora of lichens, mosses and fungi. Many of the latter are dependent on a relatively stable forest environment with shading and high humidity and access to organic material in various stages of decomposition.

The reserve is located in Värmlands län, Säffle municipality, 36 kilometers northwest of Säffle. The reserve is most easily reached via the E18 between Årjäng and Karlstad. At Långserud (just under 7 kilometers west of the E18/175 junction) turn towards Torp and turn left after about 4.5 kilometers towards Finnerud/Finnsjön. Then it is 2.7 kilometers to the parking lot, at Finnsjön's bathing place. From the parking lot you walk about 1.5 kilometers up to the reserve.
Forskrifter
In the reserve it is forbidden to:
- disturb wildlife, for example by close-up photography,
- bring dogs that are not on a leash
- light fires,
- driving a motorized vehicle,
- breaking twigs or otherwise damaging living or dead trees and shrubs
- taking the fruits of yew trees or otherwise damaging vegetation, for example by digging up herbs, grasses, mosses or lichens
- camping
- organizing orientation checks
- putting up a billboard, poster, poster, sign, inscription or similar device
- using a radio or similar device in a disruptive manner.
