Beskrivelse
The sun barely penetrates the canopy and you are enveloped in a sea of green light. Spring birds chirp among the oaks and hazel bushes, sharing their zest for life.
Vreta udd is located at Dalbyviken and is a very scenic headland in Ekoln. Here you can walk through a lush oak and hazel forest that attracts with its rich plant and animal life. The large tree crowns are home to kittiwakes, greenfinches, nuthatches and many other species that like to nest in old or dead trees.
Old maps show that the area was grazing land in the 19th century, and even in the mid-20th century there was a rare, magnificent deciduous meadow here. In the spring, the ground glows with whitethroats, and those interested in plants can see both the small herb, the poisonous magic grape and other rare plants if you are lucky.
Vreta udd became a reserve as early as 1943 on the initiative of Professor The Svedberg. He wanted to protect the area from both development and other encroachments so that the area could develop freely without human interference. The reason was that scientific studies could be carried out on what happens to an area that is left free. To this day, botanical studies are carried out in the area to monitor its development. This is why you are only allowed to walk on the marked path in the reserve, the other parts should continue to develop freely.
But at the far end of the headland, outside the reserve, you can move around freely, grill sausages in the prepared fireplace or sunbathe on the rocks.

Vreta udd is located next to Hammarskog, about 10 km south of Uppsala C.
The best way to get to Vreta udd is via Hammarskog's outdoor area. From Uppsala, take road 55, Enköpingsvägen, south. Turn left towards Uppsala-Näs and then follow the signs to Hammarskog. Follow the road past the manor house and turn off towards the swimming area where you can park. Then it is about 1 km walk along the path out to Vreta udd.
It is also possible to reach Vreta udd from a closer distance. From Uppsala, drive south along Vårdsätravägen. Turn right towards Lurbo and then left towards Uppsala-Näs. Follow Vretavägen south until you reach the parking lot located at the intersection of Vretavägen-Gränsstigen, from there it is 400 meters to the nature reserve Vreta udd.
Forskrifter
I reservatet är det förbjudet att:
- vistas i reservatet utanför markerad strövstig, undantaget den lilla holmen i Ekoln belägen ca 500 meter nordost om udden,
- gräva, hacka eller på annat sätt skada jordytan,
- bryta kvistar, fälla eller på annat sätt skada levande eller döda träd och buskar,
- gräva upp eller plocka blommor, gräs, mossor, svampar, lavar eller på något annat sätt bortta eller skada växter eller växtdelar av något slag,
- fånga, döda eller bortföra djur, föra bort ägg, rom eller bo eller på annat sätt medvetet störa djurlivet,
- rida, tälta eller elda,
- medföra hund eller annat husdjur,
- framföra motordrivet fordon,
- cykla.
