Smultronställe Kung Björns hög

The perfect picnic spot within cycling distance of Uppsala! When King Björn lived here, the sea reached up to the foot of the hill and Viking ships could be seen out on the bay. Today you can look out over the plains of Hågadalen instead. It is permitted to walk up the hill, but be aware that the ground is sensitive to wear and tear.

Legend has it that Uppland's King Björn had a farm here in Håga in the 800s. But it is not he who is buried in the mound, but a great man who lived during the Bronze Age (1000 years BC). Excavations found many valuable objects that the deceased had brought with him to the grave.

Cows and sheep graze around the mound and during the summer the entire pasture is in bloom. Here you can find, among other things, maidenhair fern, thyme, briar and many other species.

It is only 100 meters from the parking lot to King Björn's mound, but if you want to walk further, there are many trails that take you around Hågadalen-Nåstens nature reserve.

Kung Björns hög is one of Uppsala County's favorite spots in nature. A nature spot is an area with high natural and outdoor values that is accessible to visitors.
