The path in Hästhagen-Kilholmen is closed until further notice

The County Administrative Board will not maintain the path in Hästhagen-Kilholmen until further notice, as it is dangerous for visitors to walk on the path. The County Administrative Board also advises you not to visit the nature reserve.

As a result of the dry summer of 2018 and infestation of spruce bark beetle, there are a number of dead spruces in the reserve. Some of these spruces have already fallen over and are lying like pegs in the forest and across the path. As the dead spruces decompose, they become more brittle and can fall without warning even on a day with calm weather.

Beskrivelse

The walk through small nature reserve Hästhagen-Kilholmen has a lot to offer to those interested in plants, birds and insects. The hike begins and ends at the reserve’s parking area, just by Bennebol’s mill. Around half the section goes through Hästhagen-Kilholmen, with lush, mixed forests and plenty of boulders. The other half takes you along a gravel road with little traffic, between the old iron mills Vällnora and Bennebol. By the idyllic Bennebol mill, there are many building remains from the time when the iron mill was operational.

Difficulty level: Medium, around half on forest paths with many boulders, and the rest on easy-to-walk gravel roads.
