Beskrivelse

Hike in a pillared hall of tall, rough pines. Enter the forest, tilt your head back and look up at the crowns of the mighty pines. Here, on the sandy soil next to Uppsalaåsen, pines grow that are over 350 years old. It is believed that the oldest pines in Kronparken may have been planted by Olof Rudbeck the Elder around 1680. Why are the pines so big and coarse here? Over the centuries, the area has been used as grazing land and a military training area. Animals and soldiers have worked the land, which has been kept open and free of spruce and undergrowth. This has favored the competitive pine.

Kronparken nature reserve is located in the middle of the city. The forest is fenced off, with animals grazing to keep the terrain open. But there are many gates where you can get in and out. Several easy-to-walk paths lead you into the pine forest where 19 small information signs tell you about the plants, animals and history of the park. One of the signs is by the county's largest pine! A map of trails and attractions is available at the park entrance, at the Ångström Laboratory, and along Soldathemsvägen west of Dag Hammarskjölds väg.

The Yellow Trail also runs through Kronparken. It starts at Studenternas IP and continues down to Skarholmen, a total of 10 km. From Skarholmen you can take the bus back to Uppsala.

Accessibility: The area is not adapted for people with disabilities, but the Yellow Trail that runs through the forest is large and wide. Both prams and wheelchairs can get around.

Service: With the rebuilding of the Ångström Laboratory, there is no parking really close to Kronparken, but the area is easily reached by bicycle. Other services are information signs.
