Smultronställe Broborg

The mast and sails are visible in the distance. A ship is on its way from the Baltic Sea towards the port of Uppsala. From the hill where the castle is located, you have a good view and can monitor both the water and the highway that runs along the ridge a little further away. The year is 450 AD and Broborg is a place full of life and movement.

Today, only stone piles remain of Uppland's largest ancient castle. The site is located on a hill, 50 m above sea level, and of the water that connected Uppsala to the Baltic Sea, only the small Storån river remains. A path leads you from the parking lot up to the top of the hill. Here you are greeted by lots of large boulders that once formed the walls of the castle. You are struck by the enormous work that must have gone into building the castle. Today, trees grow on the slopes of the hill, but in several places you get beautiful views of the surrounding plains.

The path goes through a sheep pen up to the castle. In the castle itself and on the way up to the castle it is very rocky. The path through the meadow is more accessible. Some information signs along the way tell you about glazed stones in the wall and a magical spring.

Broborg is one of Uppsala County's natural treasures. A nature spot is an area with high natural and outdoor values that is accessible to visitors.
