Beskrivelse
Between mighty oaks, lime trees and ash trees, cows and sheep graze today and keep the landscape open, just as the deer once did. Djurgården Nature Reserve offers a scenic environment where cultural history and nature experiences go hand in hand.
The name "Djurgården" comes from the Middle Ages, when the nobility used the area as a hunting ground for fallow deer and other game. Even today, you may be lucky enough to see fallow deer, but it is above all the peaceful grazing animals that create the open pastures and the bright deciduous forest.
After a period without grazing animals, the land became overgrown, but in recent decades nature has come back to life. The northern parts were opened up for grazing about 25 years ago, and since 2002 work has continued in the southern parts to give new light and air to the old oaks.
A beautiful hiking trail winds through the area, perfect for a quiet stroll under the canopy of deciduous trees or a picnic among the pastures.
