Hölick, Naturreservat

The Hölick Nature Reserve is best visited in spring, summer and fall. There you can walk, swim or climb in caves. The sea, beaches, forests and caves offer exciting nature experiences. The nature reserve also offers cultural history and great opportunities for swimming. Hölicks nature reserve is a popular destination and is located on the coast outside Hudiksvall. It covers 313 hectares of land and 285 hectares of water. The last ice age has left clear traces in the landscape. There are shingle fields, shorelines and several caves made of boulders.

Choose another nature area if the parking lot is full

During the summer, many people visit Hölicks nature reserve and the parking lots quickly become full.

Parking your car next to the road or crowding into a crowded parking lot can be both a traffic hazard and have major consequences for rescue personnel who may have difficulty getting around in an emergency.

Varied nature and caves

In the inner parts of the nature reserve there are damp spruce forests and marshlands. Closer to the water, the area consists of hills and depressions.

There are also clear traces of land uplift. Some of the heights have bare rock outcrops on top. There are also large fields of shingle with beautifully formed fossilized sea walls.

Near the coast there is a sparse pine forest. Along the beaches you can see various coastal birds such as blackbirds, eiders, little auks, terns, gulls and sea eagles.

In the north-western parts of the nature reserve there are many caves. The so-called block caves were probably formed by the ice sheet. The weight and movement of the ice has cracked the rock and then moved the blocks a short distance.

Sea baths and ancient remains

A large sand field forms the shore of one of the finest sea baths in the county. Many plants that thrive on the dry ground live here.

On Hornslandsudden in the east there are ancient remains from the Bronze Age. Strings of stones and rings of plots show where old settlements once stood.

Services in the area

There are many paths in the nature reserve that lead to the various attractions. Hölicks campsite is located just outside the area. Here you can rent cabins, caravan sites and tent sites. There are also toilets, showers, a shop and a restaurant.
