Beskrivelse
Lillkyrka Church is a stone church believed to have been built during the 12th and 13th centuries. However, a wooden church likely stood here as early as the 11th century. The stone church has been renovated and rebuilt over several periods; the nave and the north wall of the chancel remain from the original church.
Extensive restoration work was carried out on the church between 1960 and 1963. Among other things, the paintings that had previously been painted over with white lime were uncovered.
The church’s altar is built of stone and features a solid slab of limestone. The altarpiece dates from the late Middle Ages and depicts the Virgin Mary, Queen of Heaven, with the infant Jesus in the center, surrounded by ten of the apostles. On the sides are four scenes from the Bible. At the bottom of the cabinet is Veronica’s veil, carried by two angels.
The small pulpit was built around 1600 and originally stood in the castle chapel at Grensholm Manor north of Lake Roxen; in 1741, it was donated to the Lillkyrka parish. The paintings depict Christ and several apostles. More recent furnishings include the baptismal font, which was custom-made at the Reijmyre Glassworks by artist Paul Kedelv during the 20th century. It consists of 24 blocks of lead crystal and weighs approximately 120 kg.
The most recently made item is a candlestick crafted by blacksmith Jan Hill in 2003.
