Beskrivelse
The large and contiguous natural forest area that Hällaskogen constitutes has few equivalents in Östergötland. Hillside pine forests, spruce forests, bogs with scrub and deciduous steep slopes are some of the habitat types found in the reserve. There are plenty of old and coarse trees and dead wood. Red-listed species include the rare and more northerly ringed lichen. The forest environment favors forest birds and the old trees are home to rare insects such as the black beetle and the bronze lion. Hällaskogen has a special character that has been shaped by historical use. In the past, cattle were allowed to graze freely in the forest and felling and cutting of trees was done with great care.
You can choose to walk on the Östgötaleden trail through the reserve. In the southern part there is a circular loop called "Kajsa's loop" that takes you to a nice viewpoint.

Fakta
Hälla is one of four nature reserves in a valuable pine forest area north of Lake Strolången. The other nature reserves are Dyhult, Käringbergen and Forsums gammelskog. The pine forest area means that there is a relatively large amount of natural pine forest with large populations of the plants and animals associated with old pine forest in the area.
Parkering
Two visitor parking lots are available for the reserve.
Veibeskrivelse
From Söderköping: Follow the E22 south, turn off towards Hälla and drive through Hälla village, then follow the sign "Hälla nature reserve". You will first come to a parking lot at the northern part of the reserve. If you continue on the road and keep left at the Misskärr farm, you will reach the second parking lot in the southern part of the reserve after about 1.2 km.

All the rules for the reserve can be found in the decision. Rules for the general public are also usually posted on a sign at the reserve entrance.
