Eknön naturreservat

Eknön, a unique natural area in the middle of the outer part of Slätbaken. The island is characterized by a varied landscape with large deciduous forests, coniferous forests, pastures, beach meadows and arable land. There are natural values of the highest class. Untouched nature combined with careful land use has created an almost unique environment for Sweden. There are many very old trees and dead wood. 25 red-listed lichens have been found and more than 50 red-listed insect species have been observed over the past 50 years. With its strategic location in the middle of Slätbaken, Eknön has had an important historical defense function. Two older barrages have been found at the narrow straits. A number of holiday homes and a small farm with agriculture are the only settlements on the island but are not included in the nature reserve.

You can reach the reserve by boat or kayak. The waters around the island are shallow, but there are possible mooring points at Ettersundet and Sandängsviken. A large part of the island is grazed by animals. Therefore, remember to move calmly and keep your dog on a leash.
