Beskrivelse
The area is situated in the gently rolling forested landscape east of the Västerdalälven River. Here you’ll find a truly ancient pine forest with trees over 300 years old. There is also a beautiful marsh that is highly valuable for birdlife.
Dead and living trees up to 300 years old
In the far west lies a natural coniferous forest with some old aspens and willows. The trees range in age from 90 to 200 years. The forest is very rich in both lying and standing dead wood. To the east, the forest is almost like a primeval forest and is considered to have unique natural values. Some of the old pines are over 300 years old! Dead wood is found in the form of dead trees, high stumps, and fallen logs—to the delight of many insects, fungi, lichens, and birds.
Birds on the marsh and fish in the stream
Tandflyttmyren was surveyed in 1979 and was then assessed as having a rich bird life, receiving a Class 3 rating in the bird marsh inventory. At that time, nesting curlews and reed buntings were found here. The current status of the bird life is unclear. However, it is known that the natural Tandvålsbäcken stream has a rich fish population—perch, bream, brook lamprey, pike, ide, burbot, and roach can be found there.
Visitor Information
To visit the reserve, follow the gravel road that runs just east of the river, between Forsgärdet and Säljebodarna. The road is narrow and may be bumpy, so drive carefully.
Just south of Tandan’s outlet into the river, there is a place to park in a pull-off along the road. To enter the area at Tandan, you must cross the railroad tracks on foot. Train traffic is infrequent here, but stay alert and look both ways carefully.
Here you can explore on your own, as there are no facilities for visitors.
There is currently no nature reserve sign.

In the nature reserve, it is not permitted to...
- damage growing or dead trees—whether standing or fallen—stumps, and shrubs, with the exception of collecting loose, small, dry twigs for the purpose of making a fire,
- drive motorized vehicles, whether on bare ground or snow-covered ground.
Without permission from the County Administrative Board, it is also not permitted to
- dig up plants, pick mosses, lichens, and wood-dwelling fungi, or collect animals (such as insects),
- hold or conduct competitions, camp activities, or organized events.
