Slätmossens naturpark

Slätmossen's nature park is really a green area close to the city, completely surrounded by houses and roads. The nature park was opened in 2001 and is located next to the Slätmossen terraced house area, between Vallavägen and Jordbrolänken. Despite its proximity to the highway, the birdsong of warblers, garden warblers and blackcaps during the summer provides a pleasant sound carpet over the area. Barn owls nest here and there are also interesting plants such as the southern species of lesser celandine and yellowhammer. The small area contains a surprisingly rich mosaic of environments such as rocky areas with occasional pine trees, meadows and marshes with the scent of water lilies. The Sörmland Trail passes through the area. The nature park also has another function; the ponds naturally purify large parts of central Handen's stormwater.
