Hustegaholm och Gråviken

At Gråviken, three water buffaloes graze, effectively maintaining the vegetation in the wetland and creating good conditions for waterfowl to thrive. Gråviken is a good place for birdwatchers and there is also a nice midsummer meadow.

It is a mixed area with forest, meadows, pasture and arable land and there are plenty of tracks and hiking trails. Gråviken is a bird protection area and here you can see lots of gadwalls during the fall. From April 1 to October 31, it is forbidden to stay on the waters of Gråviken for the sake of bird life. To promote the regeneration of pike, perch and zander, it is forbidden to fish in Gråviken and outside the mouth of Gråviken.

Rudbodakärret is an interesting wetland near settlements where you can see many dragonflies and in Rudboda there are also remains of Vikby, an old village from the Viking Age. Around Rudalid there is a midsummer meadow with varied flora. The previously grazed forests mean that many different meadow plants grow in the forest.

Hustegaholm is a headland on the northern shore of Kyrkviken. It is a scenic place with grazing animals and a fence. The area is owned by the City of Lidingö and is open to the public; the houses can be rented for parties, for example. There are also several barbecue areas, a jetty and easy swimming. In 1900, the author Gustaf af Geijerstam described in his book Lillebror (Little Brother) the genuinely Swedish summer landscape out at Hustegaholm with large lilac bushes, laburnum and rose bushes.
