Hemmesta Sjöäng

Hemmesta sjöäng is a wetland and recreational area for birds, fish and people that was restored in 2011-2014. Among other things, the lake is a spawning ground for various fish species, more than 500 pike spawn here in April and more than 130 bird species are observed every year. Characteristic species are white-tailed eagle, osprey, saw-whet sparrow, lapwing, graylag goose, gadwall and moorhen. The lake meadow can be divided into an open water area and a swamp forest with a small reed area separating them. The marsh forest is well worth a visit to listen to various warblers, especially the marsh warbler is common. Water rail and marsh warbler are often heard during late evenings from late May onwards.

From the bird tower you have a lovely view of both pike and birds. Sjöängsrundan is a 3-kilometre walk around the wetland where you can walk dry-shod and get a total overview of the area. During a spring day, more than 60 bird species can be seen. In the fall, many birds of prey pass by and the blue heron appears in early September.
